Thanks

We're building a dream for the children of our community, and hope
you will join us in the adventure!
Did you see
our billboard or the story in one of our local papers? Are you wondering
what we are doing? Just exactly, what is going on?
We're building
a playground. Not just any playground, a destination playground.
A place you will take your children or grandchildren, nieces and
nephews, just to play.
But
even more importantly, we're inviting all the people of our community
to come together and create something special. It's not a new idea.
Actually it's a return to an older, deeper concept of community.
Most of us have read about old-time barn-raisings and quilting bees,
and although today's world doesn't offer many opportunities for
neighbors to work together on projects like those, we can offer
a playground-raising! Children enjoyed playgrounds yesterday, they
enjoy them today, and they will enjoy them tomorrow, so this is
something we can all take time out to do!

Because can you imagine what will happen as hundreds
of children, teens, and adults take part in the designing and building
of this playground? We will gain an empowering sense of accomplishment,
strong new friendships, and an enduring sense of shared community
pride. We will have created a place for creative play and Sunday
afternoon picnics!
We
have taken several steps during the past 18-months to get the ball
rolling! Most recently, third and fourth
grade children participated with playground architect, Dennis Willes
of Leathers and Associates, to design the playground. Their ideas
shaped the playground, and the layout is simply
magnificent! More that 12,000 square feet
of play space has been allocated on the more than 3 acre parcel
which you may know as Hickory Lane Park.
Now we need
you! You can participate in a number of ways. We need your time,
talent, tools
and contributions
to "
"!
Approximately 3,000 volunteers and $150,000 will be needed. The
building begins April 6 and the Grand Opening will be April 11,
1999!
